The importance of hygiene

 

Many jobs involve food. You may think on working on a farm or working at a food company, a warehouse with food or a shop, hospital, hotel or restaurant. The rules with respect to hygiene differs form job to job.

Personal Cleanliness: Keep fingernails short and clean. Avoid wearing jewelry, especially on the hands and wrists, as it can harbor bacteria.

Wash your hands

Regular and Proper Hand Washing: Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food, after using the restroom, after touching your face or hair, and after handling garbage or cleaning.

Use gloves if you need to do

Use Gloves Appropriately: Wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods, but remember to change them regularly, especially after handling raw foods or performing non-food related activities.

Hair

Always wear a hair net, cap, or other effective hair restraints to prevent hair from falling into food.

No eating and drinking in certain areas

No Eating, Drinking, or Smoking: Avoid these activities in food preparation areas to prevent contamination of food.
